DWIKORA MONUMENT, NUNUKAN, NORTH KALIMANTAN

Nunukan Dwikora monument located in General Ahmad Yani street, Nunukan, Nunukan district, province of North Borneo. Dwikora monument is located across the Town Square Nunakan.

This Nunukan Dwikora monument erected to commemorate the struggle of the heroes predecessors in maintaining independence and to fight for the Republic of Indonesia at the time of the confrontation with Malaysia in 1964 and became the pride of the community as a whole Nunukan and Indonesia.


Dated 16 September 2013 Dwikora monument located on the west side of the Town Square Nunukan began in renovations. Before Dwikora renovated monument made ​​of native Borneo ironwood it, it only has a height of four meters. Once renovated, Dwikora monument built of concrete are now coated with a ceramic high-17meter.

This monument has seven sides which symbolizes Sapta Marga. While at the foundation of the monument, there is a plaque containing the names of the heroes Dwikora killed in confrontation with Malaysia equipped a significant red stupa that mean brave, stands on three sides also made by
10 meters high tiled walls  with a large writting inlay Dwikora monument. The construction was completed on 11 November 2013. 

Dwikora Struggle Monument building is composed of three defense equipment including Amphibious Tank PT-76 (a tank used in Dwikora Oporations and Seroja operations at years 1964-1965 and 1975-1979), Anchors and 122 mm Howitzer cannon that specifically granted by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dr  Marsetio to the Nunukan community as an expression of gratitude to God Almighty for the heroes in the fight for the Homeland predecessor during a confrontation with Masalaysia in 1964.
 
December 14, 2013 Chief of Navy Staff Admiral Dr Marsetio inaugurated Struggle Monument Dwikora. In his massages Kasal expect, this monument has meaning for the young generation of Indonesia, particularly in Nunukan on the persistence of past struggle to seize and defend the Homeland of undermining neighboring countries. Kasal also expects to society and government Nunukan in order to maintain and care for the historical monuments that still stand firmly upright. 

At the same occasion, Vice-regent, Asmah Hj Ghani said that the inauguration of the monument Dwikora has meaning for the local community because of the history of the struggle recalls the events of the Indonesian nation in the past with regard to relations of Indonesia and Malaysia.

Asmah Gani warned, the history of the struggle to defend the Homeland as a result of neo-colonialism, May 3, 1964, the first President
Ir Soekarno proclaimed Dwi Komando Rakyat known as Dwikora. 

Events struggle manifested in the Dwikora or better known as Malaysia Pengganyangan event is a testament to the strength of the Indonesian people at that time in order to uphold world peace by eliminating all forms of colonialism.
