PORONG MUD VOLCANO

Porong Mud Volcano is located on Porong sub district Sidoarjo District East java province. It is located about 35 km south of Surabaya.
This Mud Volcano is also called Lumpur Lapindo. Mud in English mean mud, Lapindo is a company which is considered as cause of the mud flow. This mud volcano had created since June 2006, by blow out natural gas well drill by PT Lapindo Brantas, Although they said it caused by earthquake. This is the biggest mud volcano of the world. Everyday 30,000 m3 mud flow out from the volcano. (It is equivalent with dozen of Olympic pool size). The Mud flow expected for next 30 years.
The Mud Flow had sunk several villages surrounding, also a part of highway. There are retaining wall/dike  with 14 m high and drainage to porong river to prevent Mud flows wider. Sometimes there are some  small spot on surronding area that flow out small mud, water and metan gas (combustible gas).
Today many people visit and get around the dike just for tourism.
